The work

Working once again alongside production company Tinderflint and creative agency FEREF, we were brought on early to deliver VFX for Escape to Another World, Disney’s latest short film supporting MediCinema as part of year two of The Magic of Movies campaign. Launched in line with the release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the film follows a young Star Wars fan in hospital, whose imagination transports him into the world of Star Wars while watching the latest release at MediCinema. The story celebrates the comfort, escapism, and wonder that cinema can bring to patients and their families during challenging times. Convex Studio acted as the VFX studio across the project, joining during pre-production and supporting the film through the shoot and into final delivery. Across the wider campaign, we worked on 12 VFX shots, with four key shots featured in Escape to Another World. Two of those shots form the film’s hero corridor sequence, spanning over 20 seconds of the final short. With no official Star Wars toolkit assets used for the VFX, every element was created from scratch. Our work included full CG ceiling destruction, dynamic tracking on Steadicam plates, outer-space window views, laser fire, CG rock blasts, roto, compositing, and detailed window treatments to help bring the Star Wars universe into the hospital environment. It was hugely rewarding to be part of the campaign again, continuing our collaboration with Tinderflint and FEREF on a film that blends cinematic storytelling, technical craft, and a cause with real purpose.
