The work

Continuing on from our work on Escape to Another World, the Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu film for MediCinema, Convex Studio also delivered VFX for a second short as part of Disney’s The Magic of Movies campaign, created to support the release of Toy Story 5. Working once again alongside production company Tinderflint and creative agency FEREF, we were brought on early to support the project from pre-production through to final delivery. The two films were produced together as part of the same campaign, with the final releases staggered to align with each respective cinema release. For the Toy Story film, our role was focused on integrating Disney’s official toolkit assets into the live action hospital footage. This included camera alignment, compositing, x-ray handoffs, and placing character assets into fully CG hospital trolleys so they could sit naturally within the photographed plates. We also created CG hospital cones and supporting VFX elements, helping extend the practical hospital environment where needed and giving the animated assets a believable place within the scene. Across the wider MediCinema campaign, Convex Studio worked on 13 VFX shots across both films, handling a mix of CG, tracking, roto, compositing, clean-up, and technical problem solving to support the final delivery.
